When my Dad died |

Can you describe what happened to you?
It was just a normal morning. I was getting out of bed when the phone
rang. I can't even remember now whether it was my mum or my sister on
the phone, but they said that my dad had been taken into hospital suddenly with
chest pains, and that they were working on him now. This had happened
a couple of times before. The hospital would keep him in for a couple
of days hooked up to some machines, "under observation" and then make
some adjustments to his medication and let him out. That's what normally
happened. I was scared, and I said a pretty desperate prayer for
him that God would keep him safe and not let him die,

Living with allergies |

Can you describe your situation?
The first few weeks with our first baby, Reuben, turned our lives upside
down. He never slept for longer than two hours and he sicked up after each feed
but mess and tiredness comes with the children. I assumed it was the same for
everyone.
At about eight weeks, his scalp became dry and crusty. "Cradle cap"
we thought, but none of the normal remedies helped.

Toddler praise at Tiny Church |

Where did the idea of running the service come from?
A small group of young mums at our church have started running a small pram
service each week for pre-school children and their parents to come to. It is
called 'Shake, Rattle and Praise.' A friend and I both had the idea, independently
of each other. We wanted something we could invite non-Christian friends
and their children to. We each had a friend who was thinking of having their
child baptised at our church at the time and we wondered whether we could offer
them a gentle way of in. Cell groups, though wonderful in their way, must be
an odd place for a non-believer!

How did you come to be involved with TearFund?
I picked up a copy of Tear Times (The Tearfund magazine) at the back of church
one Sunday. I was really moved reading the stories of people whose lives had
been changed by their help and by the way they did it - by helping local churches
to help their own communities. I knew I had to become involved.

How did you come to be involved with the Northumbria Community?
We'd been inspired by the "Northern Saints" for some time - people
like St Cuthbert and St Aidan. Partly because of that we were drawn to visit
the beautiful countryside in Northumbria, and the Christian historical sites
in that area. The children could relate to historical characters like
Cuthbert when we visited a place, and looked at where he prayed, or went to
places mentioned in the early accounts (Bede, for example), or when we visited
the priory on Lindisfarne.
