A Charitable Children's Party |
|
|
|
As a parent, you probably know that the birthday
party routine can be an almost painful experience.
With about 20 children in your child's class,
taking your child to more than one birthday party
in one weekend can happen quite often. If you have
more than one child, birthday-party weekends can
take over your whole life. Finding the best gift
takes hours, wrapping the gift and preparing the
card is more time. When it is your child's turn
for a birthday party, do you really want to put
other parents through the same routine? Will your
child really appreciate 20 birthday gifts on top
of what you and your family have already given
him? Does your child really need more toys?

Being a Change-activist School Governor
Mike Simmonds from "CARE for Education" shares his enthusiasm for governing and encourages Christians to get
involved in this challenging but rewarding role.
Each
school in our country is a cameo of society with many kinds of family
situations and backgrounds represented in the learning community.
Every school is a place where God can work. That is why I would
encourage you to become a change-activist school governor.

Mary's Broken Nose |
|
|
|
A
fine dusting of snowflakes preceded Allie as the back door opened,
quickly dissolving into mini-puddles on the lino. Six over-filled
supermarket carrier bags followed, contents spilling over, and
finally – a well-worn pair of boots, scuffed and snow stained,
laces decorated with beads, and..... ‘Useless boots! My feet are
wet!’ Allie shrieked at the kitchen walls, her stripy hat askew
above a mane of madly curled hair (which smelled rather
disconcertingly of wet dog), and a very red, (and very runny) nose.
She bent to retrieve two of the bags, and watched helplessly as half
a dozen eggs and a jar of Robertson’s strawberry fell
simultaneously onto the wet floor, creating new puddles of red and
yellow in the melted snow.

Mother Hubbard at parent's evening |
|
|
|
The whole process of Parent’s Evening is not,
as a parent would at first have thought, for teachers and parents to
meet and discuss the progress of a child. Nor is it designed to develop
a structure to help and assist a child in the pursuance of their
education, whatever the school letter may say.
Parent’s evenings are designed simply to torture the pupils.

Mother Hubbard's bargain |
|
|
|
I'm not mean, I'm careful....
I've been known to go miles in hunt of the elusive deal that will save me
10%. That is - 10% on the price of something that I didn't even know I
wanted until I saw that four letter word … 'SALE'.
The best fun is taking a coupon into the shop and finding an assistant who
had no idea that the promotion was running in the first place. This is especially
good if you time your appearance with the supervisor's lunch break.
