This hardback book is not for the very young child. The illustrations are ‘older’ than in some of the nativity books I have reviewed. Also the text is more complex and longer. But it is beautifully written and children from age four upwards will love this retelling.

This book is big, it’s bright, it’s shiny and it looks wonderfully Christmassy. It’s a great price, at only £7.99 it’s a lot of story for your pence. A storyteller by trade, Bob Hartman has compiled lots of Christmas stories in one volume. Including, most importantly, the nativity story but also including stories and folktales from all over the world.

This book is bright, with shiny stars on the front; it will appeal visually to any child. The back cover says ‘Come with all the children to the very heart of Christmas.’ And this book does just that. It is part of a series published by Lion including My Very First Bible, My Very First Prayers and My Very First Bedtime Book.
