What was your
first impression?
I
was captivated by it. I hadn’t read a biography for some time, so I enjoyed the
collection of stories in the book. It
was easy to read and held my attention all the way through.
What's it
about?
The book began with a story about a girl struggling
with addictions; bulimia and depression. It was interesting that she was from a
lovely Christian family and had been brought up to love God. It all seemed
really hopeless but she was eventually helped by a church that ran a course
called ‘Freedom in Christ’.
Going through the course had the same effect as
deliverance ministry would have had, but without all the shouting and
screaming!
The book then continued to look at many other personal
stories of freedom, interspersed with teaching from the Bible.
What did you
like about it?
It gave me hope for the people in my life who are
struggling with similar issues to those raised in the book. It made me see that
there is a different way of looking at things and reinforced my opinion that as
children of God, we can live in freedom and peace.
What didn't you
like?
It made it sound really easy to go through the course,
but to start with, you either have to have someone you can be really honest
with to help you through the course, or you have to find somewhere that runs
it.
What will you
still remember a year from now?
The way it refueled my excitement for God, hearing
about the miracles He performed in people’s lives. I was also challenged that
the whole church needs to go on the course, not just those with identifiable
problems. We should ideally all be demonstrating that freedom that Jesus
brings.
Who would you
recommend this book to?
Anyone / everyone
Can you give us a couple of good quotes from the book?
“These
stories are by no means unique. All around the world Christians are discovering
that Jesus’ promises of freedom and abundant life apply to them today, no
matter how difficult their past or present circumstances. Freedom in Christ
Ministries has a particular approach that it shares with churches who want to
use it, but I’m always at pains to point out that it’s not our approach that
sets people free, it’s Jesus Christ.”
“The
good news is that nothing is too hard for Jesus, and no Christian is too
“messed up” for Him to heal, and heal completely. You can have every
expectation of coming through to complete freedom with the loving support of
your church.”
