What was your first impression?
It was the title that made me pick up
this book and once I had it in my hand I knew I was going to buy it. This is
such a hot topic at the moment; every Christian should be on the look out for
more ways to reduce the damage we do to the environment. It’s a great size and
a great design and it’s even made from recycled paper!
What's it about?
The subtitle is ‘A pocket guide to shrinking
your ecological footprint’ and it is packed with ideas for your personal use,
for your churches use and for use in your community.
What did you like about it?
I loved the size and the design, I
loved the title and I loved the fact that it was a new way to look at this
issue with ideas for use in churches and communities as well as you at home. It
also had some interesting facts and some appropriate Bible verses throughout. I
liked the way so many of the ideas had related website addresses for you to
find out more information.
What didn't you like?
I do think there was room in for even
more ideas if some of the font sizes weren’t so large. And it was a bit
expensive for such a small book (though doubtless the cost would be saved in
making the changes in your home it suggests.)
What will you still remember a year from now?
I aim to be implementing many of these
ideas and increasing the number over the course of the next year so I hope this
book will have a lasting impact on my life and church.
Who would you recommend this book to?
I would recommend this book to any
Christian. We all have a responsibility to implement as much of this as we can
so everyone should have a copy of this.
Can you give us a couple of good quotes from the book?
Changing just one high energy light bulb to a low energy one
saves 75kg of carbon dioxide a year. That’s 7.500 party balloonsful.
It’s easy to become depressed about the state of the
environment and its future, especially when the news seems to go on getting
gloomier. How can the relatively small changes we might each effect in our own
lives make a difference? At the very least they mean that we are not adding to
the problem. Some actions will help us to be an example to others. Furthermore,
we will be signalling to Government that we want it to act to help the planet. Together
we can make a huge difference.
