What was your first impression?

A classy shape and subtle colour scheme, clean designs and attractive text, this is a book you’ll want to pick up! At only £5.99 too, I doubt you’ll be able to put it down. Written by two women who work for Activate, a charity working to help, primarily women, to be ‘who they are, where they are ~ for God’

What's it about?

For you, evangelism might conjure up images of shouting on street corners or knocking on doors of people you don’t know. This book is nothing about that. On a smaller scale, thoughts about evangelism might be of telling someone about Jesus and then praying someone ‘into the Kingdom’; the bit where someone realises suddenly the case for Christ and makes a decision to follow Him. This book is not really about that either. This book deals with the essential but all too often overlooked steps prior to that. Who are your ‘circle of influence’, your neighbours, work colleagues, mums at the school gate? How well do you know them? And how can you get to know them better and how might they see what you have and want it for themselves? This book has an absolute plethora of non-scary ideas for getting to know and learning to help those around you. Have fun, share hobbies, serve and pray for those around you.

What did you like about it?

Taking the theme of a house and all it’s rooms, the authors take us through tried and tested ideas for gentle friendship evangelism. It is a book you could rush all the way through going ‘oh what a great idea, and another and another’ or great to pick up and read a bit at a time, finding which bit suited you best at whatever point in your life. It has a chatty style and a gentle and continuing assurance that God can use you, exactly where you are, if you’re willing to be used. And you don’t have to get yourself ‘all sorted’ first.

What didn't you like?

Nothing.

What will you still remember a year from now?

I was really challenged by this book and about my witness to those around me. I think that a year from now I will be making a small headway into what this book has to suggest.

Who would you recommend this book to?

This book is for anyone who has ever said or thought ‘I’m not really an evangelist’ and also for anyone who thinks they are. It has a wealth of ideas for any Christian in any circumstance.

Can you give us a couple of good quotes from the book?

Judy organised a chocolate party…and gave everyone “permission” to be off diet for the evening! We showed two short clips from the film Chocolat and there was an opportunity to discuss the issues it raised…a video demonstration by Delia Smith. We had a number of tables set up around the outside of the room with tried and tested recipes for testing…ten chocolate fondue sets with tea lights…information was available about Fair Trade chocolate…some fun activities and chocolate quizzes…stations for tea and coffee…

One of the saddest emotions in life must surely be regret. Often we can be sorry that we’ve done or not done a certain act ~ that’s why we’re so thrilled that God builds in a repentance and forgiveness clause into our relationship. To reach the latter days of your life and regret not being bolder in sharing faith with others must be hard to live with.
