What was your first impression?
With clear illustrations and photographs of some very attractive
looking craft activities, this book really caught my eye. The back
cover says, ‘This book is crammed with brilliant ideas for cards, gift
wrap, paperchains, tree decorations, angel wings…and lots, lots more.
And it really is.
What's it about?
Christina Goodings uses the Christmas story to suggest related craft
activities and there are sixteen in all. They all look immensely
‘do-able’ both at home with your own kids or in a larger group. At the
end there is even a clear set of instructions for creating a
Christingle orange.
What did you like about it?
Some craft books seem to be full of crafts which are so difficult to
do, or which require items that you aren’t likely to already have. But
these are different. I’ve already done the Christmas Trees with a group
of one to three year olds and with a bit of help from their mummies,
they managed really well. The instructions in this book are really
clear and helpful. The pictures and photos are lovely and also helpful.
There is a good selection of different ideas all of which can be
tailored to suit your required age group.
What didn't you like?
Nothing, I love crafts!
What will you still remember a year from now?
I am always on the look out for good craft ideas and so will be able to
revisit this book for many years to come, using different ideas each
year. I also think that I will be able to adapt some of the ideas for
non-Christmas use so I will have this book on hand all year. I will
remember a lot of the good ideas in this book.
Who would you recommend this book to?
I would recommend this book particularly to people who also run craft
activities for groups such as pram services, parent and toddler groups,
Sunday school and crèche but also to parents of young children. There
is nothing quite like creating Christmas decorations at a table with
your children for getting into the Christmas spirit.
Can you give us a couple of good quotes from the book?
The wise men brought Jesus gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh. Giving
gifts at Christmas is a way of remembering the story of the nativity.
It is also a way of telling someone that you love them.
The Christingle is a symbol of some of the most important things
Christians believe…a lit Christingle is a lovely table decoration for
Christmas day.
