I like to prepare for Advent in the same way I prepare for Lent, and we'll probably do the Jesse tree again together as a family, but I like to have a guided study myself too. I got a book a few years ago called 'Advent and Christmas, wisdom from St Francis of Assisi' and loved it when I did it before - just a short reading and meditation and an action point. Do you have any spiritual plans for Advent, preparing for Christmas?

I usually try to have an advent book of some kind. It's a challenge to keep hold of advent in my personal life when the carol services start on the 6th December! We've done Jesse tree in the past but things have changed so much with dd growing up that I doubt we will this year. We will have an advent candle though and I will do an 'Advent arrangement' on the fireplace as a visual focus (at least till the decs go up - as late as Dd will let me get away with!)

they shall rise upon wings as eagles

they shall run and not be weary

they shall walk and not faint

Not sure if/how we'll do Jesse tree this year now DS has 90mins of homework in the evening. I do need to buy an advent candle & we have sticker advent calendars for them.

EM can I have the title & author of that advent & Christmas book please as it sounds ideal for me this year

Oh, I've heard of that, but never knew anyone who actually did it. I quite like it. Reminds me of the local Catholic church that have a figure of Mary travelling round the parish.

I've downloaded one onto my kindle. I actually started yesterday, because I know how good I am at missing days, so hoping being ahead will cover me later

Mine's from IVP....can't remember what it's called though

ETA:

It's The Dawning of Indestructible Joy by John Piper. I've enjoyed the intro and first day! ;)
