This is a thread to share our experiences of church - whether good, bad, inspiring, humorous or other ....

May we have a new thread for 2017? :)

We had reduced numbers this morning, partly through illness and family illness, but it was a lovely, quiet service as a result with room for silent prayer as part of our consideration of the year past and the year to come :pray1:

DH coped with taking two services this morning, I'm delighted to say, but he's still quite shaky!

Praying he's much less shaky soon.

This afternoon's service was lovely, a quiet communion service with proper liturgy and some Taize music - so different to normal :)

Me too!

Do and I did the service in church this morning. We were given free reign and so did some different stuff but it went down really well. The theme was 'Let go....Let's go!' And we used Jesus walking on the water to encourage people to let go of their fears and struggles and worries at the beginning of the new year and to get out of the boat into the safest place possible, walking on the water with Jesus. People write down their biggest fears and struggles and shredded them at the altar and then we got people chatting about their hopes for this year and what they felt God was calling them to. It went so well and pretty much everyone actively participated. We did, of course, make sure people knew it was ok not to if they preferred to sit and reflect quietly.

I'm on Aslan's side even if there isn't any Aslan to lead it. I'm going to live as like a Narnian as I can even if there isn't any Narnia. [Puddleglum]

No church for us yesterday as the building was closed. We read some of John's gospel as a family instead.

Yesterday the gospel reading was Jesus calling the disciples to be 'Fishers of men'.
As part of the sermon I asked people to think about all the places where they can share God's love.one way or another to see how far our 'net' stretches. I hung up a decorative fishing net, gave people cardboard tags and asked them to write down specific places, organisations, streets etc or if they didn't want to be specific suggested they could put 'family' or 'work' etc. They then came and clipped the tags onto the net, and we prayed for them all at our monthly prayer meeting tonight.

It was so encouraging to see so many different places that are part of our church's mission field and where people are living out their faith and the way people prayed for the different places tonight was so thoughtful and although there were lots to get through, no sense of it being rushing through a list. :)

All Age service this morning which didn't quite go to plan as connection from the computer to the screens wasn't working. We got it to connect to a smaller portable screen but a lot of people couldn't see it, so I changed some of the songs to well known ones in our hymn books.

Overall a good morning though - technology stress is much easier to deal with than hassle from people ;)

Great service here - first visit from our new archdeacon, who is lovely and preached a great sermon on being salt and light!

Good service here as well focusing on the work we've been doing in a nearby village for the past 10 years.

New sermon series started today entitled 'God at Work'. First sermon was great. Really helpful perspective of what work is, that God works, so work isn't a demeaning thing for us, that we are created in Gods image and as God works and we are created in his image we should work too... That work isn't just paid employment... Work is a God-thing and Work is a good thing. :)

That sounds really good Erica, a topic that isn't covered enough in churches IMO.
