Sounds good EM :)

Numbers a bit low this morning due to bank holiday and APCM this afternoon, but the service went smoothly. Wouldn't be appropriate to comment on the sermon though ;)

This afternoon we had our APCM which started with afternoon tea, then the meeting and finally a short service. There was a lovely atmosphere throughout :)

I was doing the intercessions but struggled - and with the hymns. Despite the expense I think I need a second pair of varifocals - one for home as well as my work ones.

Gospel reading spoke to me though - road to emmaus. How often do we only recognise God at the last minute or in hindsight?

We were looking at how we are all broken people yet how God works on us to complete us and make us whole. But that's a lifelong journey.

Ju beautiful, amazing dd 13yo fabulous, gorgeous ds 4yo

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.

Just coming back to share the main point of the sermon. The reading was the original ending of Mark's gospel, which in the Greek ends with 'because...'. Even in English, sentences don't end with because, and Greek is no different.
Father Phillip said one of the reasons the book ends so abruptly is because we, with our lives, are supposed to continue the story. So prepare you pen, fill it with ink, and write!

Good Shepherd Sunday, and sermon was on the fact that we need to be attentive to the good shepherd's voice. Also that we are all called, at various times, to be shepherds.

We arrived late as I forgot I was parboiling potatoes and got out of the shower to an awful smell! Still, we got there in the end. There was a baptism and a ovely feeling of fellowship

All Age service this morning on the Good Shepherd theme, which included a sheep race with paper sheep!

Tonight I was leading the joint healing service at the other church in our parish - fairly last minute our music group were asked to play too. As one of the others said, it was like driving a strange car - doing what we usually do but somewhere that felt very different.

We are doing a series on Psalms and DH asked people in the congregation not nominate their favourite psalm and he would preach on it.
This morning we had a new preacher who preached her maiden sermon on Psalm 116 which was the text for the first sermon even preached in Australia. The key verse was "What can i render unto the Lord for all his goodness to me?" It must have been an interesting sermon in 1788 on the shores of Sydney Harbour, and I don't think I did too bad a job of pointing out that we can always give thanks to God for all his goodness. I even mentioned Collegemother and how she held firmly to Jesus and the promise of eternal life in all her trials. I may even preach again.
Our Lord reigns for ever and ever.

Well done!

Church today had a great atmosphere. I got a few looks singing "When the spirit of the Lord is within my heart" with gusto. I promise I didn't dance naked to verse 3!

sounds good BM - well done!

Why not, AMO?

We had a preacher who comes quite regularly and is academic but interesting.   He preached a stonker today about the word 'in' - us in Christ and Christ in God and also God in Christ and Christ in us, using a set of Russian dolls.

Early morning service was taken by a retired vicar who lives in the parish who was keen to focus on Rogationtide but linked it in to 'Thy Kingdom Come'. Slight delay when we couldn't work out which flagon of wine was the non-alcoholic one
I always find services he takes quite emotional simply because his accent reminds me of my childhood (he comes from the town where I grew up).
That was followed by a baptism service which seemed to go quite well.

Bushmum - well done, and looking forward to hearing about your next sermon :)

Ascension today, albeit moved from Thursday. The priest pointed out that it is deeply significant because by it, humanity entered heaven. That had never occurred to me before, but wow!
