The second strand concerns our preparation for the Second Coming.   There seem to be rather fewer clear pointers in the Old Testament but here are a few:

Psalm 23:6

Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

Isaiah 25:8

    he will swallow up death forever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears
    from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace
    from all the earth.
The Lord has spoken.

Daniel 12:1-2

“At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.

Job 19:25-27

I know that my redeemer lives,
    and that in the end he will stand on the earth
26 And after my skin has been destroyed,
    yet in my flesh I will see God;
27 I myself will see him
    with my own eyes—I, and not another.
    How my heart yearns within me!

The teaching of Eternal Life is less clear in the Old Testament though the teaching of forgiveness of sins is a continuing thread.   Much of the emphasis seems to be on obedience to the Law but, after breaking it, the people are expected to look for forgiveness!.

Are there other verses you might turn to?

What might you pick out from the verses above?

No longer a cube but very happy about it!

There is some great encouragement there and a constant reminder that this is not the end, our Lord will return and all will be new.

Our Lord reigns for ever and ever.

Isaiah 9:7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.
There are a number of promises that are as yet unfulfilled ... everlasting and complete peace for example, the total rule of God, the vision of the eternal city that needs no light in Revelation ... all point forward to something greater still to come.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

Come, Lord Jesus!
